FAQs
The following outlines timeframes, fees, sample edits, payments, and other important notes involved in the editing process.
Are you a certified editor?
Yes I am. There are too many editors out there who are editing manuscripts with no training or certification. I made it a priority to obtain certification in both content and copy editing from Wandering Words Media, and because upskilling myself is important to me, I am also currently working toward achieving a proofreading seal from Proofread Anywhere. You can see my seals below.

How do I pay for your services?
I accept international payments in USD via Wise or PayPal, which are both very easy, trusted, safe, and secure vendors. It is free to set up an account with both of these facilities. Alternatively, for local New Zealand clients, I accept payments to a New Zealand bank account in New Zealand dollars.
Is there a deposit?
Yes. A 50% deposit is required up front, and the remaining 50% is required following release of the edited manuscript. This is based on your submitted word count. However, if you are still at the rough draft stage at the time of your booking, the deposit is a rough estimate and the final payment is reconciled.
Which styles do you follow?
Burning Legacies Publishing follows Chicago Manual of Style in American English, and the New Oxford Style Manual for British English. New Zealand English and Australian English is also followed on request.
Which platforms do you work in?
I work in both Google Docs using suggested edits, or Microsoft Word using tracked changes.
Do you conduct sample edits and do they cost anything?
Yes! Burning Legacies Publishing offers a sample edit of up to 500 words, free of charge. If you’d like to partake of this offer, please hit the ‘sample edit’ link above, fill in the questionnaire, and submit a sample.
Do you offer a discount?
Yes! For those clients who have had three manuscripts (comprising more than 180,000 words) edited by Burning Legacies Publishing, a 20% loyalty discount is applied to the total fee for every manuscript submitted thereafter. This is because (a) it is important to look after loyal clients, and (b) I recognize that my clients have learned a lot about editing from me by then.
How long will it take to edit my manuscript?
Timeframes are variable as they are dependent on the length of your manuscript, the state of your manuscript, and the type of editing service(s) you require. Your place in the editing queue is confirmed when your 50% deposit has cleared. Timeframes are also dependent on how long you take to resolve the edits made in a round. Up-to-date communication between us both is key to ensuring there are no misunderstandings.
I still have a question, who should I ask?
I’d love to help. Email me at burninglegaciespublishing@gmail.com.
